No, it's not an illegal version of XP.  It's not running XP, it's running ME.  Yes I know it's old and out dated, but it was working just fine.  I have XP on my laptop, but that doesn't get my desk 'puter working.  Any other suggestions?  (Tossing the whole thing in the dumpster is looking pretty good  :o )  Unfortunately, I need that puter too.  Thanks!

Actually, different day, same stuff.  I think I will just have to toss in the towel and take it down to the local puter shop.  :-/   I hate admitting defeat.  I do appreciate all you have tried to do to help tho. hagn err moring?

Well from what I've seen it doesn't really load at all... it gets to the point where it should start to load but nothing happens.. it just sits on the background screen/picture... wont go any further than that

Are you listening....then hear  goes.....hold down the f8 key on boot up....so far so good......now chose the start from the command prompt.......got it..A:\> type this after it>>>>>>>>scanreg/fix... so its A:\>scanreg/fix...does it work it should do!

Ok.. Tried to do the f8 but there is no command prompt under this.  There is: 1) Normal  2) Logged (\BOOTLOG.TXT)  3) Safe mode  4) Step by step.  

I looked under each step, but none give me a comand line.  

Any other suggestions?
