Halo 2 Runs Very laggy. Not right.
« on: July 21, 2010, 09:49:56 AM »
When I install halo 2 and start playing it it is laggy. its playable but very annoying. the settings are low on everything. is there a way to even make them lower?

Specs:
Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor TK-55
1.00GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 7000M/nForce610m

Halo 2 Requirments

Operating system   Windows 7 or Windows Vista
Computer processor   2.0 gigahertz (GHz)
Memory   1 gigabyte (GB) or random access memory (RAM)
Hard disk space   7 GB of available hard disk space. The dedicated server and the map editor require more hard disk space.
Video card   ATI X700 or Nvidia 6100 display adapter with 128 megabytes (MB) of RAM and the following features:
Pixel shader: 2 or greater
Vertex shader: 2 or greater
Windows Experience Index scores:
Graphics score: 3 or greater
Gaming graphic score: 3 or greater
DVD drive   32x speed
Sound   Sound card, speakers, or headset
Supported controls   Keyboard and mouse or compatible game controller (Xbox 360 Controller for Windows)
Internet connection for online play   Network adapter for LAN multiplayer gameplay

I can run Halo 1 Almost on MAX Settings on this computer. And its awsome. but why does halo 2 give me fits? how do i fix it? MY Graphics drivers are up to date.

I would guess because you have Windows vista with 1.00GB RAM but try here and see what it say => CanYouRunIt.com

Did you run the last scan on Win XP? Win 7/vista use more ram then XP, but I guess you need to buy more ram if you want it run smooth (make sure you take right on the DDR when buying ram)

You have a low-end, integrated graphics chip which is not suitable for modern games.
Halo 2 is not coded well for PCs and higher-end PCs at the time it was released could struggle at times due to this.
There's no way you can make Halo 2 playable on that, sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Ive played it before. but cannot play it now. I forgot to mention that I use a laptop. Its Hard to upgrade a graphics card in  a laptop. Its a Multimedia laptop so it is a better graphics card ive seen in most laptops other than dell xps, alienware, etc.

You can play Halo 2 very good with that video card. You might lose some FPS at some "busy" moment but it shouldn't be a big deal.

You didn't mention that.

I forgot to mention that I use a laptop.
I gathered it was a laptop from the mobile processor and graphics chip.

Yep, usually impossible.  Hence why I said there's no way to make Halo 2 playable as it would require an upgrade.

Nope. "Multimedia" is meaningless. a PC with a 133 Pentium processor, a 4GB graphics card and 128MB of RAM can get the "multimedia" label, so it's largely meaningless.

BC, your sarcasm detector must be broken ... I was referring more to the fact that this specific laptop has an integrated video chip from 2007 or thereabouts, yet it's apparently better than modern "gaming" laptops with chips like the Mobility Radeon 5870 (also known as the 5770 I believe ... ah, laptop naming schemes, how you lie).

I knew you were sarcastic, I was just further qualifying why what they said was incorrect.
