NTFSDOS Help
« on: July 26, 2005, 11:35:39 AM »
I'm working on an NTFS XP Computer and I have a program called NTFSPro.  The problem is that when I add (Compression) DOS Executiables to the NTFSPro.iso , then boot up my computer with it in it from the command line I cant get files to compress.  I tried importint compact.exe, won't work get error message it wont work under dos I believe, I imported rkive with SMARTDVR and tried that as well.  I think it is because NTFSDOS sucks....more likely than not it's because I'm using a brute force method trying to solve this.  I've googled everything to DEATH.  No info on How I can add a file to my COmmand Folder in the NTFSPro.iso that will compress files.

When I open the iso, I have 2 folders
COMMAND and NTFSDOS

In the Comand folder I have files like get.exe, xcopy.exe, xcopy32.exe, fc.exe, ATTRIB.exe, EXTRACT.exe (that works only on cab files) and so on.

In the NTFSDOS Folder I have files like AUTOCHK.exe, ntfschk.exe and so on....

Bassically All I want to do is compress a file... like this

C:\compress C:\FILEFOLDER\FILENAME

Can anyone please help, I only come to these places as a last resort.  Like I said I googled the *censored* out of this thing.

Thanks
Any help would be appreciated greatly

Have you tried using the Compact command to compress files in DOS?

Yes I even Injected the COMPACT.EXE file into the Command, Folder on the NTFSPro Boot CD. reburned the image.

When I booted the Computer from the CD, at the command line I typed...

    compact /?

I retreived an error message telling me that compact could not run in dos mode

I'm not sure what you mean, could you go into more detail, I dont have XXCOPY, by defalt My NTFSPRO CD has XCopy & XCOPY32 in the COMMAND directory but not XXCOPY, XXCOPY.  Does XXCOPY Run without DPMI and does it compress?

Please Doint forget all, I'm booting up Below Windows, From the CDROM and running the COmputer From the CD ROM....Im not going into windows then able to access DOS, like most of you folks are doing, I'm physically booting the CDROM and viewing the NTFS C:\ Directory from the NTFSPro CD...then running the DOS programs from there

I think I'll try injecting PKZIP, apparently from what I understand PKZIP will run without DPMI whis stands for Dos Protected something or other....lol.
I'll let ya all know how that works out, any suggestions would still be appreciated.

    Thanks

Thanks  merlin_2 :( but this is so funky, have you ever used "NTFSPro?"  It comes with the most simplest usless comands, Ya got Copy, Move stuf like that, forget about using COMPACT, I had to add it to the COMMAND Folder inside of the NTFSPro iso image, then rebuirn the iso image, then Reboot My Computer, and it then tells me it won't run COMPACT Under DOS....lol  then I try adding rkive.exe to the Command Folder, and that says Missing DPMI...then as a last hacking Resort I put those same files in the NTFSDOS Folder int he Same NTFSPro Iso Image Reburn the Image, Man I'm lost with this, good news is I got a lot of coffie coasters, enouth to last me a life time If I keep this up.
I mean they should call it something else if it isn't DOS, I mean just cause it looks like dos and does a couple of comands "NTFSPro" is a tough nut to crack brother

Not a problem.  Yes, your right, it is a boot Disk
I'm a software tester (I get paid to break software) and another of my job responsibilities is to try and hack into my companys site and network, they pay me for this....  MY DREAM JOB let me tell you.
Anyhow, I had uncovered a method of Cracking the windows passwords for XP that's using FAT32, by using a special Linux Boot CD, I boot up from CD which goes benith windows and from Dos command, I Zip the "System" file Located in C:\Windows\system32\config , and put it on a floppy, then on the same floppy I copy the "SAM" File from the the same C:\Windows\system32\config
    directory......
Then to make a long story short I copy and Unzip the SAM / System files from my floppy to another computer, and by using a program called "pwsex"  I crack all the passwords for the different user accounts on that
    specific computer...

I've done this on my home computer which is a FAT32 base XP Box.  The Work test computer However is a NTFS System, NOT FAT32, hence the need to use NTFSPro, which mounts the NTFS Portion and uses a dos like utility, "BUT"....I Can't compress the "SYSTEM" file using this utility, it doesn't have the COMPACT command,  arrrrrgh

Thanks for your help bro, I'm still on it, the http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/ article might have something on It I may be able to try, the freakiest thing is, If your trying to mount an NTFS Partition you can using Like I said NTFSPro...I've used other boot disks that were dos baised, but :( they wouldn';t let me see the C:\ directoy, I could only see the A:\ , Ram and CDROM they wouldn't mount the NTFS... :(....
And if I do use a CD that actually mounts the NTFS Partition the DOS Like tools don't compress anything so I can store it on a Floppy

We'll I'll keep at her, thanks Merlin for all your help
