Letters appear slowly as I type.

As I type, the letters are delayed by 1-2 seconds.  I don't know if I have a virus, but I used Spybot and AVG and nothing came up.  I'm afraid to login to my bank account. Help please.

This is probably because some program is using up a lot of CPU. Open task manager (Ctrl-Alt-Delete or just right click taskbar) and check how much CPU usage and what program is using the most.

yeah i found the solution! all you need to do is turn off voice reconigtion. its under control panel/ regional and languages/languages/details then just remove that *censored* thing.

You are looking at the wrong thing. Look under the column that says CPU. Also look at the bottom, it should say "CPU Usage:" What is the number most of the time?

How much RAM do you have?  What internet speed do you have?

System idle isn't a problem in any event.  In fact, a high system idle CPU number is usually a good thing.

Open msconfig and choose "selective startup" (disable everything from loading) and reboot. Is everything normal? If so, start adding items back one or two at a time, rebooting after each, until the problem recurs. Report back with the name of the offending process.

For what it's worth, I keep task manager open, but minimized all the time.  It displays an bar graph representation of CPU useage in what I've always called the system tray for years, but apparently it's proper name is the notification area.  Anyway it's in the lower right hand corner of the screen.

If the graph is maxed out you will see a slowdown in typing characters appearing.  I usually have a couple of web sites open that do frequent live updates and I will see CPU useage go to 100% briefly during those updates.  When that happens I just wait a few seconds and then everything returns to normal.

Download Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel (http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml). Uncheck all startup items and reboot. What happens?
