Old Laptop Free AV software.
« on: July 24, 2010, 10:40:51 AM »
My old laptop, Compaq 7800, needs free AV software.
Has XP sp2 and 256MB.
Need something that does not slow it down even more.
Any ideas?

How is MSE compared to AVG or AVAST? And last I remembered trying it, the program always popped up when it was updating. Is there a way to get the program to silently update like AVG or AVAST can do so I won't be bothered with it, so I don't need minimize the screen to hide it???

My old laptop, Compaq 7800, ...
Has XP sp2 and 256MB.

Why no SP3?  Microsoft support for Win XP without SP3 has ended.

Agreed.
And toss some RAM in there while you're at it...you and your machine will both run better...
I'd recommend another 512Meg   travel to Crucial.com and run the scanner to ID what type to buy.
