Perseid meteor shower
« on: August 11, 2010, 02:19:51 PM »
From CNN.

One of the best opportunities for sky watching and time-lapse photography is right around the corner. The annual Perseid meteor shower peaks August 12-13 above North American skies, and forecasters are expecting a lively show  - about 80 meteors per hour during peak display!

The Perseids appear to come from the constellation Perseus, but are actually bits of debris from the Swift-Tuttle comet, which has been orbiting the sun for centuries. The Earth passes through these streams of shooting stars every August.
