    iTunes Won't Play Certain Songs?

    Ok so basically my iTunes won't play certain songs. They will play on my iPod (even if I sync it, they still play) but not on iTunes. They used to play before though. Not sure why they don't now :/ Any help?

      Nothing. No song name pops up. It just doesn't do anything. If one song finishes and one that won't play is next, it is skipped. There is no error message.

      Double-click on a song it skips. Is there a message?

        Look in the folder where the song is. First, is the song there? Second, what is the extension of the song file?

          The song is there. The extention is MPEG Layer 3 Audio.

          The name of the file is song.mp3, is that what you are saying? Or is the extension actually "MPEG Layer 3 Audio"

              Well no. In explorer, it just shows the song name. But in properties, it tells me it's an mp3.

              Is explorer set to show you the extensions of files? Can you see the extensions of other files? If not, in Windows Explorer go to TOOLS - FOLDER OPTIONS - VIEW - and UNcheck "hide extensions for known file types"

                Did that, and the files that won't play say .mp3 liek all the others.

                Please try the following:

                1) Try to play the file in Windows Media Player. Does it work? If not, the file is corrupt. If it does play then
                2) In iTunes right click on the song and delete it (not from the computer, just from iTunes). Then re-add the song. Did that work?

                  It plays in WMP. Oddly enough though, it's not in the list of songs. However, it will not re-add into iTunes. (This is one of the bunch songs that don't work).

                    Most are from CDs, some from the iTunes store and others I got from Youtube or just online.

                    And you cannot re-import them into iTunes? Very strange. Did this just start or has it always been this way? If it just started, what is new or different since the last time it worked properly?

                    Have you tried a reinstall of iTunes (or installing the latest version if it isn't already installed)? You should also post the problem / question on the Apple Support Forum.

                      This happened maybe 2 weeks ago? At first, it was only one song I wanted to play so I didn't care. I just deleted the song. But as I wanted to play other songs, I found they didn't work either. iTunes is up to date.

                      Well, you should post on their forum. And just to be safe, you should probably run a full scan of your system with BOTH your anti virus utility AND MalwareBytes. Sorry I haven't been able to be of more help.

                          I managed to get it fixed, thanks to the help of the Apple forum. I was told to download "MP3 Validator". It found so many problems with my MP3s, fixed them, and now every song works. Just posting again incase anyone else has the same problem and finds this thread. :)
