run and search are basically the same on windows 7... it's next on the top of the start button... just type what you want to run or search...

"Start search" bar visible, when you click on Start button serves as search and run field.

You can also enable separate "Run" link in Start menu by...
Right click on Start button, click "Properties".

Click "Start menu" tab, then "Customize" button.
Put checkmark in "Run command" box.

When you click on the start button, just start typing away. It automatically starts searching for the program you're looking for.
You can always just hit Win+R on your keyboard to bring up the run dialog, too. For search, hit Win+F.
