If you have access to another computer and can temporarily remove it then connect it to the other computer (pins set to slave) and see if you can access it from there. This will help to determine whether the drive has actually died. These instructions are based on it being an IDE as opposed to SATA HDD. If it is a SATA and you are unfamiliar with how to accomplish the same test using another SATA compatible HDD please advise and instructions will follow.
