    Fans, Lights, No POST

EMachine T6212  512 MB RAM  Win XP

Friend was going to sell her computer. I took it and ran DBAN and re-installed Win XP - system ran fine. Took it back, hooked it up and system booted to Desktop. Had a Windows notice that it found new hardware and was installing drivers. I thought that was odd because all the computer had plugged in was a PS2 mouse, PS2 keyboard and monitor. The only things "different" were the keyboard and mouse - I had used USB devices.

Anyway, the system was locked (mouse would not move) so I let it sit there for about 5 min and shut it down via the power button and powered it back on. "On" light came on, HDD indicator lit up for 10 sec, or so, and the fans spin but no screen output and no POST.

Tried so far: different power supply, added video card (computer uses onboard video), re-seated RAM, pulled RAM and tried to boot, pulled CMOS battery for 15 min and replaced it with a new one - nothing happens: no beeps, no video, just fans and "on" light.

    All thoughts are welcomed...

    1.  That would be new hardware.
    2.  Something is wrong with the PS2 ports, go back to USB.

Computer has only monitor connected and won't POST - what, exactly, are you suggesting?

Won't POST without a keyboard connected.

Thanks, Patio - All drivers were successfully installed after OS was re-installed.

You are correct but it also won't POST with a keyboard connected, USB or PS/2.
