Outlook going a bit mental
« on: August 03, 2005, 04:52:28 AM »
hi all,

My outlook has gone a bit crazy. I use it (badly) a lot & its absolutely chock full with important messages & other bits i really have to keep. But its doing weird things, like not letting me reply to mails & stuff now. Do i need to allocate more hard disk space for it? My disk is not full by any stretch but outlook seems to be, its always archiving off messages. A friend tried to sort it out over the phone, but its worse, as now i have several inbox's instead, which is causing me real headaches.

is it possible to get all my data off, re-start outlook & put all my data back on again, like fresh? without multiple inboxes?

any help muchly appreciated, thankyou.

Paul

ok, i've been doing some poking around myself & it seems the problem is stemming from the fact that i have a 'personal files' folder in the folder list in outlook, but it doesnt seem to be attatched to a data file.

ive looked in tools->mail options -> data files & its not listed.
ive also right clicked on the folder itself & looked at its properties & i get an error returned 'data object could not be found'.

this is where my problems are i think. how can i delete this rougue folder? i cant delete the data object because it doesnt exist according to outlook. & i cant delete it from the folder view inside outlook either. i'm stumped :-?

thanks,

Paul

Depending on the version there is a outlook repair tool Scanpst.exe  download  it  from :-
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA010549311033.aspx

the other thing it could be is that the amount of email  is over the limit that oulook can handle, and your temp folder could probably be cleaned out as well.
there are in internet explorer/ tools/ delete files delete cookies, and clears history.which should cut it all back safely.
