laptop won't turn on

Hey there,
Well, yeah, i was in the middle of writing an e mail when my laptop just shut off, i guess that the battery had run out. (dell) so i plugged it back in but nothing would work and after a while i figured out that i dont think that cable is working. What do i do? do u think that its possible to buy another charger or what?
thanks 4 ur time, sorry if its a dumb question, but what else could it be?

Perhaps the Laptop has overheated? Turn it off for an hour or so and see if it will start again.

Was it protected by a surge protector when you had it plugged into the power grid?
