BSOD error, can't install any drivers Help!
    « on: November 24, 2010, 05:32:38 PM »
Recently one of my older computers in my house started to act up. It started freezing and then eventually it started to show the blue screen of death with a "NVLDDMKM.sys" error (http://farm1.static.flickr.com/179/461991088_a4143c3298.jpg). This computer has had Windows 7 for a year now (before it was running Windows XP with no problems).

I tried to reformat installing Windows 7, but the same error appeared. So then formatted to Windows XP and everything runs fine now, except that every time i try to install ANY Nvidia drivers, I get the BSOD error. Basically, the computer is running without the video card and it's really choppy without it. If I do install any drivers, I can only go in safe mode.

Any suggestions how on to fix this? I've posted this on the Nvidia forums as well.

    Specs:
    ------
    OS: Windows XP (SP3)
    Motherboard: ASUS M2NPV-VM (Socket AM2 940)
Video card: 3D Fuzion Geforce 7600 GT
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3200+ (2.31 GHz)
    RAM: 2 GB DDR2

Are you using the CD that came with the card to install the drivers?

Did you get the error during the install?

In safe mode, are there any errors in device manager?

I am not using the CD that came with the card because I don't have it anymore. I tried drivers from the Nvidia website, but none of them work. When I reformatted to Windows 7,  the installation completed but when it restarted to boot for the first time, the BSOD showed up.

With the no drivers installed, the device manager shows a yellow question mark icon for "Video Controller (VGA Compatible)" and says no drivers are installed when I go into properties. With installed drivers and in safe mode, it says in device manager that the device is not available in safe mode.

run>sfc /scannow -shut down your screen saver and everything disconnect from internet(sign out)anti-virus pop block too. don't mess with the mouse or keyboard when it runs don't interupt it !
when done restart the computer then run> dskchk < if it wants to schedule it click OK. restart your computer.
restart all your things when its done and try what you need to do then.

          1) You can safely ignore the above post
          2) There is no such thing as "dskchk"

What have you added or removed before the BSOD?
What type  card are you using?
It appears you have upgraded from XP to Win7, if so and you have reformatted the drive, you will always get the BSOD. All upgrades look for a pervious OS or product version.
The NVIDIA site has many drivers to include for Windows 98?  Please keep us posted.

          HAPPY NEW YEAR :-\

And this one too. It truly makes zero sense.
