Is there a program I could install on my computer that can detect all processes running on my computer?

I guess process wasn't really the right word to use.  What I'm looking for is a program that can tell me everything that is running on my computer like stuff that shouldnt be there that I may have picked up on the internet.  I run antivirus and antispyware scans regularly.   I really don't know that much about it except for viruses and even though I have plenty of processor power and ram sometimes I have trouble with web pages loading extremely slow and also have had major problems with playing WoW(getting kicked and extreme lag) but I've heard about other things besides viruses that can get in your computer and use it for various purposes.  If someone has knowledge about this stuff maybe you could elaborate?

When I delete browsing history is it necessary to delete all cookies?
