I'm installing a new 500 gb hard drive in a Winxp pc and the BIOS recognizes the full 500gb but after installing the os (winxp) only 137 gb is listed in "My Computer".  Please advise on how to access the remaining 363gb of storage.  I have a Gigabyte GA-945GZM-S2 motherboard and a WD 500gb hard drive.

Check first on your BIOS settings/features if LBA Mode is present... Enable it or turn it on. Save & Exit.

    Install service pack 3.

I have enabled the mode to LBA, saved, exited, and rebooted and still show only 127GB in my computer.  Yes, I said 127GB not the 137GB that I stated at first.  I'm not sure if that makes any difference or not.  I am already running sp3 on winxp pro.  The ATAPI version is 5.1.2600.5512 and as far as the ms link which I read through I am a bit worried about changing code.

How does the drive show in Disk Management ? ?
It may have done this because of choices you made in the setup process...

double click Storage.  double click Disk Management.
