Apple’s Original MacBook Air Finally Makes Sense to Buy. As a Refurb!

With two new MacBook Air computers released, Apple has finally treated the Special Deals section of its online store to some old-generation units priced at just $849. We’re talking about the 13-inch model which comes with a standard of 2GB of memory, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics, a 1.86GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, and a 13.3-inch display.

Remember when we asked Why Would You Buy the MacBook Air?. Well, you can now buy one for just $849. And it's the updated model with an NVIDIA 9400M chipset. Although it may sound surreal, it’s not.

Would you? Should I?

The HD spec in the article was 120GB.

This comment in the article makes me pause.

For those who consider mobility more of a priority than a fast processor, the old-generation MacBook Air selling for $849 is clearly a bargain.

All things considered, unless you are a die hard Apple fan, I would take a second look at a windows laptop for that price.

As long as  you think that the processor is fast enough for you. I have used Macs for 25 years now and have never had a hardware failure. You might want to make sure that it is an Intel Mac so that you can take advantage of the latest.

But a brand new macbook air is only a hundred bucks more - is it really worth saving a hundred bucks for what is essentially a really slow machine? The new air actually beats the current macbook pros in most benchmarks, even though it has a slower processor, because it uses SSDs. I'd go with the new machine, enjoy the extra speed, and the peace of mind that comes with a brand new machine and full warranty.

Getting an 'old' MacBook Pro still gets you the full warranty.

And the MacBook Air is by no means a powerful computer, when compared with the other Macbooks.

I have never had any problems with refurbished Macs.  I recommend that option to people regularly.

Refurbs work fine. It actually depends on how you take care of it.
