Windows Media Player
I have been doing a search for a place to get a new ribbon IDE/ATA cable and I have not been successful. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Hi Merlin..I did what you suggested, but I don't have the "open with" option available.
I drove 60 miles round trip to a reputable computer store and purchased a new ribbon cable, installed it and ...darn it...it still is doing the same thing! Both drives are still not "seeing the cd", but I can still watch a DVD!  ???
Thanks again.

Eliminate the CD-ROM drive as a factor by testing it in another computer.

Yep! You're right. I installed the cdrom drive into another computer and it did the same thing it was doing in the original PC. So, I guess it's a new drive!
Thanks again for all of your help. This is a great forum!

Hi Merlin!
The CDrom drive will not load anything. As I stated before, when I insert any cd into the drive, it flashes green and then a fast flashing orange. If I right click and choose open or explore on that drive it says 'Please insert disk into drive'.
But..if you have anymore suggestions before I by a new drive I would be more than happy to try.
As I said before, I did try another cdrom drive in place of this one and the second drive did the same thing. Thanks again!

Hold on! I thought you had tested the broken CD-ROM drive in another computer?

Are you now saying that you tried another CD-ROM drive in the same computer and got the exact same results?

This is what I did.
I install the drive in question in another HP PC. Same results.
I installed another drive in the original PC...same results.
So I assume that the drive is bad, but I don't have as much knowledge as you experts, so I will try anything.
Thanks so much for all of your help!

By this you mean that you installed a working CD-ROM drive in the computer where the broken CD-ROM drive refused to work and that the working CD-ROM drive showed the same behaviour as the broken drive?
