help! have somehow deleted my sound!
    « on: January 06, 2011, 10:50:37 PM »
so i stupidly decided to 'clean' my computer right out, deleting many old programs i never use anymore. in doing this i have somehow deleted whatever it is that makes my computer make noises! have done a system restore, and while that didnt bring back the sound it did bring back the 'digital output device'. but still no sound. have spent two whole days sitting here playing around with things and cant fix it, any ideas??

How did you delete programs? By Add or Remove in your Control Panel?

What type of noise? Audio coming from speakers or from the machine itself?

Could you give your machine brand/model/specs? Have you tried going to your Device/Driver Manager and check on your Sound Device for any marks?

yes, i went nuts in 'add or remove', and also just went through my c drive and deleted things i dont use, and accidentally, things i do use..

all audio coming from the machine, the speakers themselves work. ive tried them on another comp. and have plugged headphones in my comp but they also dont work. so i know its the actual computer.

i have gone into device manager and it says everything is working as normal.

      its an Asus, Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00 GHz 2.99GHz with vista

have spent all day transferring all my pictures, movies etc onto an external hard drive and will wipe it all clean and start again tomorrow i think.

Just reinstall all the audio, no need to wipe the hard drive.

Follow CC's suggestion. But if you are able to backup all your files and want a clean system its in your discretion.
