If I want to play 2-D Sim games on my laptop and I have a 320GB harddrive, how powerful should my CPU be as far as
brands and models (Intel, AMD, etc...) go so that the games play smoothly without problems like freezing or long loading times?

Read the specs for the Sims games.
Early versions of Sims worked on almost anything.
    They always loaded slowly.
