    old floppy drive yo new mb

    hello,  i have a 34 pin floppy drive and i'd like to use it on my new motherboard. do i find a ribbon for 34pin to the 40 pin motherboard. i hate to just toss it.

      Given that your chosen route (cable/adapter) is going to entail a probable purchase why not spend the money that gives you more ongoing flexibility. The amount of money spent will not be that different if you purchase an external USB floppy drive instead. You will be advancing with technology instead of regressing. truenorth

      As i explained to you in Chat you need a proper floppy drive cable...and it needs to be connected to the floppy controller slot on the MBoard...

      I doubt there are Floppy to IDE adapters, mostly because they would be of limited utility, and would require at least as many solid-state components as a standard USB Floppy drive, making their sale relatively moot.

      I've yet to encounter a machine that doesn't have, at the very least, a floppy drive connector on the motherboard. A few "legacy free" machines and some miniature case machines notwithstanding.

      Both my present Shuttle and the previous one have no floppy header on the motherboard, but they are SFF (Small Form Factor) machines

      To address the OP's problem, you may still be able to pick up LS-120 drives on Ebay or elswhere. These connect to an IDE cable and can read floppies.

      I am finding that none of the latest motherboards have the FDD connector/controller.  Some don't even have the IDE connector/controller.  Seems to be the case with branded machines, too.
