    « on: January 28, 2011, 12:08:03 AM »
I have a Compaq Evo circa 2008. Internet Exporer is causing me problems with downloads.
I got advise to restore it back to factory settings and start fresh.
    How is this done?

    Before you do that.  :)
Do you have backup copies of all important data?
    Which Operating system?
    Which version of Internet Explorer?
    Have you tried Fire Fox?

Yeah, I like Firefox's download management better than IE.  What is the nature of the problems you're having with downloads using IE?

In Internet Explorer, Choose Tools->Internet Options
Select the "Advanced" tab. Click the "Reset..." button near the bottom of the tab to reset IE settings to their default.
