    Same drive?  http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,113665.msg761193.html#msg761193
They are not repairable, where would you expect to find parts?

hi there.Actually yes. ;D.The head is broken. i have to buy a new drive, one as much as possible identical ,meaning same model and firmware. My model costs around 100-150$.I'm willing to spend that on along shot and try to repair it myself.Actually they do this in special clean rooms but i cant afford professional work,so i'll do what i can and if it doesnt work i'll have blown that money. My problem is i cant figure out where top get the info about the firmware.

As CC said several posts ago, hard drives are not repairable by the average, or even above average, consumer.  They are fun to take apart, and a good learning experience, but they will never work again.

Firmware updates are not the issue here...nor will they likely solve the issue.

i'm looking for the number of the original firmware ,not an update. Some internal drives have the number written on the cover with the other info but this one doesnt have it.The only other way is to get a drive manufactured within acouple weeks but thats not easy to find.I guess nobody knows how to get this number. Thanks for your advice.

Well now i understand what it is you are trying to do...you need a logic card for the HDD to attempt to retrieve data...
That was unclear in your Post.

The serial# from the drive itself will narrow the search greatly...suprisingly enough although i'll never recommend them eBay has been my best source for this in years past...

            Best of Luck.

PS Contacting the HDD manuf with that # will help even more...
