I want to disable access to a website, but the message the person gets after trying to access the blocked website can't be a blatantly obvious "this website has been blocked" message. I need something along the lines of the person just getting a blank page or getting a "connection problem" (or whatever it's called) page.

Is there some way to do something along the lines of this?

My roommate keeps visiting a site that I know spreads a virus. He just blows me aside when I tell him the site has a virus. If I make it obvious that I'm blocking it, he'll give me some crap of some sort. That "crap of some sort" could be nearly anything, so I'd rather he didn't know I was purposely trying to block it.

Who's computer is it? If it's yours, password protect the whole computer, and tell him to get his own computer. If it's his, get your own computer, and let him infect his own computer.

www.funorb.com isn't the actual website, but I used it as the test because I want to limit my visits to the actual virus website.

Thats unfortunate, responsibility goes along way.

Maybe everytime 'spreads the virus' you should get it cleaned at 50/50 expense. He's not taking your friendship seriously.

I'd think about getting another roommate.

One last shot at this...

Get a larger Hard Drive and split in in two. Half his, half yours. Kept the old drive as a part of your panic backup plan.

What kind of PC is it? How big is the drive in it now?
Depending on where you live, you can get a good internal 40 GB drive fort about $40 if you shop around.

Try 127.0.0.1 www.funorb.com in your HOSTS file.

Your browser looks in the HOSTS file first then if there's an entry it will use the IP address to the left of it.
You can use your HOSTS file to redirect your browser to any website you choose. 127.0.0.1 is your local computer which will cause your browser to display a can't connect screen.
