This SATA drive was originally inside a WD My Book Essential Edition 2.0 external USB hard drive enclosure on which the USB connector on the enclosure failed. I disassembled it to find what looks to me, physically, like the Velocirapter SATA hardrive in my self built desktop PC (in specs). Is there an adater or enclosure available that I can use to run this SATA drive as a USB hard drive once again to use for my laptop as a storage drive. This drive has many DVD's I bought online and I would like to access those files with my laptop.

Thanks JJ 3000! I'm not sure which enclosure to order and realize you need more information to help me choose.

The SATA hard drive that came out of the WD My Book enclosure is:
Western Digital
 Series Caviar Blue
 Model WD3200AAJS

(Interface SATA 3.0Gb/s, Form Factor 3.5")
============
AND
I'd also like to be able to switch to a WD 1600AAJB EIDE 3.5" desktop internal drive.
(Interface PATA 100 Mb/s, Form Factor 3.5')

My laptop has four / USB 2.0 and one 1394a inputs

Question #1 :
The Newegg enclosure search tool ask:
 Internal Interface?
 IDE
 SATA
 SATA II
 SATA I/II
 SATA I/II/III
 SATA & IDE

No SATA III is available that includes IDE'
Will SATA interface work with my SATA 3.0 Gb/s hard drive?

Question #2:
Will this work for me?

A USB enclosure for SATA 3 is utterly pointless; the only advantage SATA 3 has over SATA 2 is the same advantage SATA 2 had over SATA one; higher throughput. Most hard drives cannot even come close to saturating a normal SATA I connection, let alone SATA 2 or SATA 3- and even if they could, USB2 is limited to 480mbps anyway so even SATA I would be bottlenecked.

All SATA drives can be placed in all SATA connectors. a SATA 3 drive will work with a SATA 1 interface; a SATA 1 drive will work with a SATA 3 interface, etc.
I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

Thanks BC. I'm in my Newegg account page now. I suppose I'll order the item I linked
I'll post back here with updates after I have it up and running.  :)

Recieved the drive adapter and it works fine. I've run EIDE and SATA and both drives work fine. Thanks for the help, as always!
