Ok so here's the problem as best as I can explain.
 When logging in to the desktop, we get a message in a box :
 C:\winddows\system32\config\systemprofile\desktop refers to a location that is unavailable. This box is in the middle of the screen.
 Down in the right hand corner another box appears :Failed to connect to a windows server.
Another one appears and it says Host process for windows services stopped working and was closed.

We have the fios connection, and the signal is strong. Nothing new has been installed that I know of.

I can get online through programs, (such as windows 7 upgrade advisor). I have everthing I can think of up to date. I cannot get desktop icons to appear. I also cannot get any quick launch icons to appear. I have done 2 system restores. Neither one worked. I have tried to reboot from recovery disk.
 Can you help?
