What does a computer automatically upload?
    « on: March 18, 2011, 11:41:27 PM »
I wonder when I get statistics of uploads when my laptop is connected to the internet but I have uploaded nothing personally. Yes they are not material but their monthly and annual totals are. Anyone with idea please help. Thanks in advance.

Programs: anti-virus; firewall; MS Word; Windows Media Player; IE; Firefox; anything that connects the internet more than likely sends data.

All network connections are two-way; Your browser or other software requests data which is sent in packets. After each packet is sent, the receiving computer sends an acknowledgement and then the next one is sent. These acknowledgement packets that you send back are uploads.
