    hi, just wanted to ask if thermal paste like on cpu or video card needs to be replaced or refilled to an old pc?

    Yes. Just look for online tutorial or videos on how to re-apply the grease.

      It is meant to last for years. Otherwise, it is replaced only if there is some indication the heat sink is not well seated. The more often happens when the case has been statemented roughly, like falling off a desk. Don't trow it from the train.

      Not all pastes are the same. Some need re-applying periodically and also paste will change properties if it is overheated. Older compounds are not so long lasting as modern ones. Cheap zinc based shorter lived than silver based. You should always clean off the old thermal paste and apply new stuff if you remove the heatsink. Typical scenario: heatsink vanes clogged with dust and fluff, CPU overheats a bit, thermal paste gets cooked a bit, is less efficient, CPU heats up more, paste is cooked some more, etc etc etc.
