    Is an ATA interface hard drive compatible with an SATA interface hard drive?

    You can Google that to get a long answer.
    (ATA is sometimes called IDE)

    Short answer. ATA was first.
     Then when the new interface came  along -
    new terms were needed.
    PATA = p arallel ATA interface (OLDER)
    SATA  = serial ATA interface. (NEWER)

    What do you mean "are the drives compatible" with one another? Do you mean you want to replace one with the other?
