Delete >>>HARDCORE MOVIES<<<
« on: August 20, 2005, 07:45:16 AM »
My 16 yearold son has been surfing at porn sites, and the problem I am about to describe has happened twice now.  When I highlight something and right-click to copy, the list that appears has the words...
Cut
Copy
Paste
Select All
Print
>>>HARDCORE MOVIES<<<

The first time it happened, I was told how to delete the words >>>HARDCORE etc., but I have forgotten, and now want to do it again.  I must have done something in the C drive, would that be right?

I would greatly appreciate any help, so that I can delete those words from my computer.

And no, he's not using the internet any more late at night when everyone is asleep but him!  >:(

Btw, if anyone can help, I won't be able to read your reply for about 10 hours, because it's 11 p.m. in Australia now and I am off to bed.  Thankyou very much  :)

Hi Katrina. I could be wrong on this, but there should be a registry key you have to delete... I can't help you so much with that part, however, I DO suggest installing some kind of Parental Control on the computer to stop him from looking at such things... Also, does he have his own computer account? If so, it should probably be a "Limited" account, so he can't install anything...

Password protect your computer and do not allow your son access to the Internet.

Before you know it, he will be fornicating, committing adultery and not spending time watching Oprah Winfrey or Doctor Phil.

Scan for Spyware, Viruses and Trojan Horses. If your son has been browsing the Internet using Internet Explorer you will immediatly have to install the following programs and gain back control of your computer:

Virus scanners
AVG Free
-- Anti virus scanner
Trend Micro Housecall
-- Online anti virus scanner.

Anti spy/malware
Microsoft Antispyware
-- Anti spyware scanner. Windows XP Home and Professional only.
Spybot Search & Destroy
-- Anti spyware scanner
Adaware SE Personal
-- Anti spyware scanner

Firewalls
Use both a hardware and software firewall.
Be advised as dual software firewalls may cause problems

ZoneAlarm Free
-- Free firewall - more user friendly
Sygate Personal
-- Free firewall - more configuration options

Removal tools
The following files are not substitutes for the ones described above.
They are either diagnostic tools or removal tools for malware of a certain kind

HijackThis
-- Manual malware remover. Post the HijackThis log generated only if requested!
McAfee Stinger
-- Virus removal tool. No substitute for a fully functional virus scanner!
CWshredder
-- CoolWebSearch removal tool. Widely known and persistant Hijacker.

Yes download a good Spyware program like microsoft anti-spyware there on Raptors list.

Porn sites will fill your pc up with Tracking Cookies and other types of spyware!

I'm only going to post this once; make good use of it.

Want more control over your children's user accounts in XP? How about the days of the week and time of day they are allowed to logon? Should work in 2K and NT also.

Follow these steps:

1. Run the CMD command from the Run menu.

2. Type in
net user xxxxxx

(where xxxxxx is the username you want to edit)

The command displays the user's properties, all of them, not just the ones MS wants you to see. For instance, you can see when was his or her last logon, when he or she have changed their password etc.

3. Type in
net user xxxxxx /times:s-f,8-19

(where xxxxxx is the username you want to edit, the s-f means Sunday to Friday and 8-19 means the hours of the day when you want the user to be able to log-on)

Type in
net user xxxxxx /times:all

to get the user logon hours back to default.

SPECIAL NOTE:
What this will NOT do is terminate the log on if the account was logged into during the specified times. Just make sure your child logs out at a certain time. Then they will not be able to log back on except during the days and hours specified.

Hello and thank you all for replying.  I will answer in more detail within 2 hours.

Meanwhile, does anyone know how I can find the words >>>HARDCORE MOVIES<<< on the computer?  I'm sure I went into the C Drive and clicked on a folder and probably another folder, and there were those exact words, which I deleted.  (This was with a professional's help - not my guesswork).

Thankyou again, I do appreciate it.

Hi Flame, No, he doesn't have his own computer account.  He downloads a lot - games, etc, but mainly pictures of his favourite car.

Hi Raptor, My son doesn't know my computer password, but I let him go on the net to look at cars and play games.  The times he has looked at porn sites would be when I have trusted him to be looking at cars and games.  Also, to study road rules as he wanted to go for his Learners Permit.

My virus scanner is AVG free, and I check for updates each morning before I do anything else on the computer.  I run a complete scan about once a week.  I use Trend Micro Housecall about once a month.  Neither AVG or Housecall have ever found a virus.

I have Adaware SE and Spybot, and run them both every single night.  Adaware often finds between 2 and 7 Files Identified or tracking cookies but that would be due to just my surfing.  But it did find some registry keys (not sure if they are the correct words, but their icon was a turquoise colour) two days ago.  I wasn't happy about this and knew that was due to my son.  Spybot always says Congratulations, everything is ok (words to that effect).  I don't have Microsoft Antispyware.

I have ZoneAlarm, but not Sygate.  Do I need Sygate as well?

I do not have any of the Removal Tools.  Thankyou for all those programmes mentioned and I will look into the ones I don't have.

Hi Ross, thanks for your post.  Hi 2k, I will study your post.  He really isn't on the net a great deal e.g. daily - more like 3 times a month.

I appreciate all your advice and will now go and do some homework with your posts :)

I am hoping someone will reply re my previous message also - that would be very handy.

Ciao,
Katrina :)

      1. Cars can have rather interesting curves.

      2. You should remove these.

      3. Try using Microsoft Anti-Spyware as it is most likely more effective than Spybot S&D and Adaware SE

      4. No. Only install one software firewall.

You can manually edit the registry by using a program such as Regedit (Start -> Run -> Regedit) or Registrar Lite which is more user friendly.

Search for the words "Hardcore" and you will most likely run into the value that has added the word.

Hi again Raptor and thankyou for the message I just read.  Yes, I removed the registry keys as soon as they appeared after the Adaware scan.

I will have a look at Microsoft Anti Spyware as soon as I have finished this post.

I searched for the word Hardcore as Fed suggested, and came up with two - one had a Windows Media Player icon before the word, and the other had a different type of icon before it (a white squarish one)

I didn't delete them immediately, because I found the original message by a professional who helped me in November when I had the problem the first time and this is what she wrote...
Regedit is set up sort of like Windows Explorer. When you run it, you'll see a list of "folders" on the left and a main window on the right. There are 5 main folders. You want to open up HKEY_CURRENT_USER and look for the Software folder. Inside there is a Microsoft Folder, inside that a MenuExt folder. Expand that folder and you should see a bunch of other folders. Highlight the folder that should say something along the lines of >>> HARDCORE MOVIES <<< and delete. Close regedit and restart IE.

When I went to do it this time, things didn't happen in that order, maybe because last time I had Windows 98SE and this time I have XP.  I seemed to come across the words >>>HARDCORE MOVIES<<< quicker, while trying to follow her instructions.

      I successfully removed the words.

I searched again for the word Hardcore and found the two I mentioned above with the different icons and removed them.

Thankyou all very much for your help - I do appreciate it :)
