    Blank Screen
    « on: April 21, 2011, 05:22:30 PM »
Sorry in advance if this is in the wrong section.

OK, so I'm on my Laptop (HP Compaq 6715s) basically i have gone to turn it in, it has shown everything it usually does but when it starts to load my main home screen, its a blank screen, my mouse is still there and i can move it, but nothing appears. It works fine if it is in safe mode, and I'm currently in VGA mode.
Also change the screen resolution it also goes blank. I have a look on line and nothing seems to work

    I am running:

MS Windows XP Professional 32-bit SP3

What happens if you try "Last Known Good Configuration" from the advanced startup screen?

Unplugging the USB's did not work.

The last good configure still has a black screen.

Either drivers are corrupted or graphics chip has failed.

I would say the driver is the culprit since it works in safe mode.

      sherman454,

Log into safe mode with networking. Click here.  and download a fresh copy of your video driver.

Install the driver and boot back into normal mode. Same problem?

Not necessarily.  There's a recent thread where the card only worked in safe mode, would go blank in normal mode.  Drivers were updated, same result.  Card tried in different computer, same result.

It will not install, it says:
"setup did not find a driver compatible with your current hardware or operating system"

goto safe mode and uninstall the video driver, reboot in normal mode and see if it boots up ?

If still problems  then try first disable all third party services from MSCOnfig and boot in normal mode. If it boots correctly, start 5 more services through MSConfig and reboot. Reboot until you find the faulty driver. time consuming :(.
