new hard drive wont work

i installed a new hd in my laptop,that was setup for xp pro. but i put xp home on it.didnt think it would matter. i cant get it to do anything.it says i need to register it, but that xp home came with my desktop.i cant activate it.what do i have to do to get this thing working? i thought i installed a driver to get me on the internet, but it wont.i guess i bit off more than i can chew!!!!! any info would be nice... thx,confused!!!

Let me guess...
His HD on the laptop got zapped.
Bought a new one.
The only XP CD he has is for his desktop...   :'(

You will need to find a copy of XP pro to install.

Some laptop manufacturers provide recovery disks that you can order from their website. These are usually inexpensive. You just have to pay the cost of shipping.


Or, if the old hard drive is still functional, you can clone it to your new hard drive.
