    NEED HELP WITH TV-OUT FUNCTION
    « on: June 07, 2011, 12:19:49 PM »
I just purchased this (http://www.amazon.com/TV-out-VGA-S-Video-Cable-Adapter/dp/B000P3UB24/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1307470582&sr=8-2) cable which is supposed to connect your computer to your tv in a way that you can use your tv as a monitor.  I have an older tv which does not use hdmi or vga connections but my computer 's graphics card DOES have tv-out capabilities.  I have an hp pavillion p6110y desktop running windows 7 and the graphics card is a "Intel GMA 3100 Shared video memory (UMA)".  I've attached all of the wires and my tv has nothing displayed.  Any help would be much appreciated.  Thank you in advance.

I also should mention that I only have one vga port in the back of my computer so in order to connect the cable to the tv I have to disconnect my actual monitor.  Meaning the tv would be my primary and only "monitor" hooked up to the computer

Have you selected a resolution on the PC that the TV can display and have you selected "A/V" or whatever on the TV?

Does your tv have the ability (usually via the remote) to chose between "input" sources/ truenorth

This is what I was getting at above. Some TVs will detect a signal on the S-Video input automatically and switch to it if you have the TV switched on first and then turn on the computer, others won't and you will have to do it either on the remote or using a button on the TV often under a flap at the front. Consult your TV manual if you have it or Google for it online.

I looked through my tv manual and checked out the tv and remote and as far as I can tell there is no special way to switch to s-video, ill keep looking though just in case

Looking at the manual is generally a good way to go--however pick up the remote control and look for something that says "input". If it is there with your PC running and connected to the tv keep pressing through all the options and see if you can generate the computer screen to the tv. truenorth

Try with a different TV. Also what resolution is the computer display setting?

I curious if your video card supports this, I wanted to try something like hooking my computer up to the TV as well but apparently not all video cards can do it. Have you read the paper work that may have come with your new cable? It may also be that you have the smaller (in the picture you linked to it was greenish) cable in the wrong connection - I don't mean reversed but maybe in a slot for the sound feed instead of the video feed?
