computer will not recognize CD/DVD drive

Dell Dimension 5150 windows XP home SP3, just installed a new LG GH22 DVD rewriter and the computer will not recognize the drive, no "found new hardware".  Multiple hardware searches reveal nothing.  Could the driver be bad?  I've had a hard time locating a driver anyway.  Any help?

With Dells the SATA ports that don't have devices connected are disabled in the Bios. You will need to access the bios and enable the SATA port and if there is no more IDE devices disable that port. And then your new SATA DVD will work.

Nope no luck, I turned on all the drives and on start up it says drive 2 not found, so I moved the device to port 2 then it says drive 1 not found..still no go.
