    lsass.exe Application Error
    « on: June 28, 2011, 10:54:56 AM »
Everytime I boot up I get this error: lsass.exe Application error. I have to click the ok button twice before it goes to a blank screen that enables me to do nothing but move the mouse around!

I had the memory almost full and so had just cleared about 6 GB. After that I updated my spyware. My computer started to get unusually slow and Adobe Flash Player kept crashing. I restarted my computer and now here I am: with this error.

I can access the safe mode and last known configurations mode but the error still comes up. I do not have a windows XP cd as my computer was used & refurbished when I bought it.

I have looked around the internet for a solution relative to my problem, but I cant find one doable for me. I really want to try to avoid taking it in to Staples or some other store.

Let's rule out (or in) malware.

Please follow the instructions in the following link and post your logs in the thread you create (NOT in this thread):

i'm going to go in and say that the sasser virus usese the name "lsass .exe" with a space in it, if there is no space then that rules out one of three virus possabilities.
the fact that everything ran slow after your antispyware was updated makes me suspicious.

I wasn't sure to post this in viruses or here because I read somewhere in doing research for this that sometimes it wasn't a virus.

I can't post the logs because I cannot login to access anything. This error happens in the boot up process.

And there is no space in the name. Also, I'm not sure if my spyware (Norton Antivirus) actually finished updating or not, it was taking quite a long time.

Hello and welcome to Computer Hope Forum. My name is Dave. I will be helping you out with your particular problem on your computer.

      1. I will be working on your Malware issues. This may or may not solve other issues you have with your machine.
      2. The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
      3. If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to ask.
      4. Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans while I am helping you.
      5. It is important that you reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
      6. Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.
      7. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.

If you can't access the internet with your infected computer you will have to download and transfer any programs to the computer you're using now and transfer them to the infected computer with a CD-RW or a USB storage device. I prefer a CD because a storage device can get infected. If you use a storage device hold the shift key down while inserting the USB storage device for about 10 secs. You will also have to transfer the logs you receive back to the good computer using the same method until we can get the computer back on-line.

Go to this link to create a Rescue CD or to this site to create a Rescue USB. Carefully follow all the instructions for whichever method you choose.

Thank you for helping me. I have tried the first method of creating a rescue CD to no avail. I shall try the scone method soon.

The second method did not work either. I think part of the reason is because there is no option to boot from a Cd/DVD in the BIOS startup menu. What now? Any suggestions?

There has to be a way to boot from the CD. Please review the information below.

If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps here

Ok. Did you set ATAPI CD0:MASHITADVD-RAM to be your first boot and your harddrive second?

Please try setting your USB to be your first boot and try the second method of Rescue USB.

I have done as you asked and the scan worked fine and the infected files were deleted, but the lsass.exe error still appeared when I tried to boot up my computer.
