    Streamline "Add or Remove Programs"
    « on: June 29, 2011, 12:48:27 PM »
I have a Sony Vaio laptop (PCG-K33), Windows XP sp3.  I use Windows Media Player and Adobe Flash Player.  Also use SonicStage for playing CDs (I like it best).  Do I need to keep the VAIO Entertainment Platform, VAIO Media 3.1, VAIO Media Integrated Server 3.1, and VAIO Media Redistribution 3.1 in my computer?  Or can I delete them?  I really don't want to mess up the operating system, and am unsure whether or not to delete these programs.  As it is, they are disabled and I don't use them (never have, so I don't know what they do).  Thanks for advice.

Sorry I don't have any experience with the computer you mention. However I do have an idea that might work for you. Do you already have a backup plan? If you have, and that will make things a lot easier.

Here is the way I backup my laptop computer. I make a complete copy of the operating system and all the other programs from one hard drive to another. By having all my stuff on a spare hard drive, it makes it possible for me to restore the system back to the way it was originally. And that means if I make some changes to the original system and file things out, I have a way to get back to where things were going.

Sso then my personal answer to your question would be this: will find any good hard drive that is about the same size may be slightly larger than the one you already have in the laptop. Course it has to be the same interface and it has to be a drive that you would normally put in a laptop. Then you can make a complete copy of everything that's on your system drive into a backup drive.

To make sure the clone drive works, pull out the original drive and stick the backup drive and see if it works. In fact, you might like to do your experiments on the backup drive. Delete Some programs and see if it affects speed and  reliability of your computer.

Yes, that does sound like overkill. But having a reliable backup is always a good idea anyway, no matter what you're doing.  :)

Unless you are running short on hard drive space, I wouldn't worry about it.  Just having the programs on your hard drive won't slow down or hurt anything.

And as geek said you should do a backup.  Since you are on XP, you should do a disk cleanup and defrag on a regular basis.

Thanks very much.  I think this will answer my question.
