    Print to file trouble
    « on: July 07, 2011, 10:38:07 AM »
Ok so I'm using a program called gimp which is similar to photoshop. I have my image set to print to the dimensions of 41.5" and 8.5". When I go to print I check the "print to file" box, apply the change, and than print. It than asks me to enter an Output file name so I do and click ok, but after that nothing prints out. I'm using a Cannon MX340.

hello there , to command print you have to change the entire setting of your printer software , just check it ones. Or else there are many better application for viewing images and print them u can directly change it .. hope you will sort out the problem
      thankyou

When you print to file you are creating a file on the disk. Have you looked on the disk for the file whose name you supplied?

Yes I have and when I go to open it, it asks me to choose a program to open it with and I could not find a program that I could.

What kind of file is it? Do you understand that you are not giving enough information?

          Yes, we know it's a file.   ::)

What's the extension for the file?  That's the part of the file name that follows the dot.

No literally, when I go to properties it shows, "Type of file: File"
There is no extension displayed and I have it set to show extensions.

Can you open it with Gimp?   Do you have any other photo editing programs installed?

When I try to open it with gimp I get this error message,
"Opening 'C:\Users\willschneidz\Pictures\Loaded Dervish' failed: Could not open 'C:\Users\willschneidz\Pictures\Loaded Dervish' for reading: Error domain 1 code 64 on line 1 column 238 of file:///C:/Users/willschneidz/Pictures: XML declaration allowed only at the start of the document"
              And I do not.

Do you really need to print to file?  What about just saving the file as one of the normal image file formats?

This is probably a stupid question but how would I go about converting the saved image into a PDF file so I could than print it out from there.

Are you trying to print a banner or what?  41.5" is almost 3 1/2 ft.

Ah, OK, a way to do that would be to install a PDF converter such as PrimoPDF.  It adds itself to your system as a "printer".  Then, you select it as the printer when "printing" from Gimp or any other application and the output is a PDF file.  You can get the free version or paid version at http://www.primopdf.com/index.aspx

I am trying to create a custom grip tape design for my longboard, so I pulled an image of the board from the internet and scaled it to the boards dimensions in actuality. I created a design on the board with gimp and I'm planing on printing it out to actual scale so i can cut on the designs and trace them onto my grip tape, cut out the grip tape and put it on my board.

I'll try that out though hopefully it works  :)

Ok, so when I select it as my printer it converts the file but for whatever reason during the conversion it does not keep its scale. Maybe if I used another program it would keep the scale?

It's a kind of long skateboard, which is a toy for teen boys.
