first time build:a few problems and a few questions
    « on: July 28, 2011, 09:46:54 PM »
AMD phenom II x4 970 3500 mhz processor
    m5 a97 evo asus motherboard
HIS amd radeon hd 6700 series
    Corsair gs800w power supply
    4 gb corsair xms3 ddr3 ram
    WD caviar black 1tb hdd
    running win7 ultimate 64bit

im having a few problems so far with this build.
for one, whenever i boot it up it flashes "overclock failed!" even tho ive never taken any steps to try and overclock it. and whenever i try to get into the BIOS menu my processor starts to heat up and the fan starts to go crazy fast to keep up. also,in bios,my mouse never stops moving itself to the right side of the screen. this is the only place it does this,it works flawlessly otherwise.

so far i havent really used this pc for anything heavy, pretty much just TF2 and lots of interwebzing, which it seems to have no problems with. however, occasionally it seems to be working much harder than it should be. just sitting on this page posting this its idling at 48 degrees Celsius, according to CoreTemp, which i think overestimates the temp a little.

i assembled this completely on my own, with help from the internet and random advice from friends. im pretty much just wondering if i missed an important step,or if these problems are typical noob mistakes,or if i need to upgrade some components. i know i need more RAM and a network card, but other than that im lost.

any advice is much appreciated, thanks in advance!

Overclock failed.. Try to reset CMOS and see if the message goes away.
Also, see if you can post a picture of the overclocking controls in your BIOS.

My HP ProBook 4510s's BIOS limited mouse movement to up and down. Never had a second thought about it.

"Try to reset CMOS and see if the message goes away."
could you explain what that is and how i would go about doing that?

i'll try to print a screen of the oc controls.

and i'll stop concerning myself with the mouse, its unnecessary anyways  XD

Right at boot there will be a lower screen sentence such as "PressF10 to enter setup...(different for all machines...mine's delete )...Once in setup you will see an option to "restore default settings...
      Select that and re-boot.
