Curser jumps back to previous typed area?

Why does my cursor jump all over the page while I am typing.  This happens during email, facebook, and word.  Is there a solution to this irritation?  Thank you for any help you can give me.

If your using a laptop your hand could be touching the touch pad causing the cursor to move about. Ensure your hand is away from the touch pad whilst typing. If it's not a laptop please supply us with more information on your system.
