Superantispyware Version 5 product update
« on: August 14, 2011, 11:45:23 PM »
There was a product update this morning on SAS for latest definition/core. After clicking the install setup and went thru the usual installation progress, Avira antivirus (version 10) detected a trojan during the SAS update. Antivirus gave me an option to removed and went by scanning and fixing the threat while SAS being updated. When update was finish, a system reboot was required for the changes to take effect. After rebooting the system and back again in Windows desktop, I chose to open SAS via shortcut icon and unusually an error occured that all files were gone/could not find(something like that). Went through program files and to my surprised, most SAS component files are missing. What I did was:
1. Uninstalled SAS by add or remove programs
2. Reinstalled previously downloaded version 5 installer.
3. Updated automatically and then another product update message pops out.
4. Went thru the product update install again, and it was a success.  :)
Got worried there actually... ;D

3. While updating SAS, Avira detected some malware that belongs to SAS -- TR/Spy.Spatet.BC [trojan]
This is what I got from report file, copy-pasted
Quote
Begin scan in 'C:\Program Files\SUPERAntiSpyware\SUPERANTISPYWARE.EXE'
C:\Program Files\SUPERAntiSpyware\SUPERANTISPYWARE.EXE
  [DETECTION] Is the TR/Spy.Spatet.BC Trojan
[NOTE]      The file was moved to the quarantine directory under the name '4b89e181.qua'.
You can remove it via your Avira Antivirus and then see my 1st post. I only use Windows firewall, so I think you should do the steps first.

Avira might be claiming this as a false positive. Looking at latest threads http://forum.avira.com/wbb/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=134956

According to one of their moderator, Avira VLab was informed about this issue and it will be fixed ASAP.

Hey! I got home already. I didn't follow your 1st post. I just tried to update my Avira then check again my SAS... I successfully accessed my SAS now without any error, I also update it. Then based on my observation there's no more Avira popups stating infection. Actually I ran also complete scan using Avira and no any infection found.

Maybe the latest Avira updates resolved the issue, since their VLab was informed. Here's the latest Virus definition file from Avira: V7.11.13.44, 8/15/2011
