Help - Cant access certain site - ISP being difficult
    « on: August 19, 2011, 04:57:08 PM »
Help Needed - Im trying to convince my ISP that the issue I have is not related to anything at my end

Issue - I cant login to access a particular website, website is www.en.ikariam.com, I can get the home page but when i try to login, the page does not load 90% of the time, other times it comes up blank or just text links down the page (which i cant click on)

What I have tried at home (over my ISP connection)
    - 3 different computers, 2 running xp, 1 running windows 7 (none give me access)
    - 3 different browsers across all 3 computers... IE, Firefox and chrome (none give me access, chrome gives me the warning Error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE): The server closed the connection without sending any data)
    - ive tried a different modem and cables (which work fine at a friends house and lets me access the site im wanting to access at his house)
    - deinstalled/reinstalled my antivirus, firefox and chrome on one of my home laptops. (no access)
    - temp disabled my firewall on one of my home laptops (no access)
    - ping www.en.ikariam.com (4 sent, 4 recieved, 0 lost)
    - tracert www.en.ikariam.com

Things i have tried at other locations (not my ISP connection)
    - My same laptop from home (access granted, pages load fine)
    - A different laptop and desktop (access granted, pages load fine)
    - A different modem (access granted, pages load fine)

Ive spoken to others that use the same site and none are experiencing any issues at all

Im getting frustrated and running out of known things i could test and despite all the current tests ive tried in my opinion spell my ISP connection needs a swift kick to the kerb they are still denying that there is any issues at their end..

Can someone please tell me how or what i could test to prove once and for all its my ISP...? and/or is there any way of knowing if i just change my ISP i wont run into the same problem, be it im in a contract which i will happily buy out of if it fixes my issues.

That's just ridiculous. You should ditch them and find a better ISP. If they identify a problem at their end which stops people from accessing certain sites they better take some immediate aciton to fix it  >:(

It appears that you do have alternative choices re other isp's. Call them and give them the affected website and have them try it with their system. Presuming that they have no issues with it tell them of your contract situation with your current supplier. Tell them you will cancel that contract and come to them ONLY if they will agree that if that site (which is obviously very important for you) must function properly after you switch and if it doesn't they will disconnect you from their service AND NOT charge you for anything. If they agree go back to your current provider and tell them of your intentions to leave them Their attitude may change and they may fix THEIR problem.truenorth

If changing ISP is not an option, consider connecting via an anonymous proxy/VPN.
