yahoo mailbox

my yahoo mailbox count says I have 148 unread messages, when in fact there is only 1.  How do I correct the problem.  Yahoo want to charge me 30 dollars for the answer, and I can't afford that.  Can someone out there help a beginner?  Thanks much. 1. Have you check already unread messages in your Spam folder?
2. Have you check already other emails in your customized folders?
3. How about past emails, have you read them all or you overlooked some? You can check old-dated emails by browsing to the next page.
