Virus scanners
AVG Free
-- Anti virus scanner
Trend Micro Housecall

Anti spy/malware
Microsoft Antispyware
-- Anti spyware scanner. Windows XP Home and Professional only.
Spybot Search & Destroy
-- Anti spyware scanner
Adaware SE Personal

Firewalls
Use both a hardware and software firewall.
Be advised as dual software firewalls may cause problems

ZoneAlarm Free

Sygate Personal

Removal tools
The following files are not substitutes for the ones described above.
They are either diagnostic tools or removal tools for malware of a certain kind

HijackThis
-- Manual malware remover. Post the HijackThis log generated only if requested!
McAfee Stinger
-- Virus removal tool. No substitute for a fully functional virus scanner!
CWshredder

no i scanned and use AVG. no probs there. The HD gives a little buzz usually when it freezes. I just built the system last week so everything is fresh even the HD.

You have used 1 program out of 10 recommended?

Have you tested the Hard Disk Drive using diagnostic software?

Has it done so from start? If yes, you should reformat the entire HDD and reinstall Windows to see if the problem persists. If it does, chances are high that it is hardware related. Unless you do not take proper security measures such as a firewall, virus scanner and spyware scanner before connecting to the Internet.
