Computer won't boot and cd drive has been disabled.
    « on: August 26, 2011, 11:07:56 PM »
Help. My old samsung magic station will not boot and the cd drive has been disabled. I believe this was the result of a virus but I can't for the life of me figure out what to do. I have the XP disk but no way to load it. I believe this was a virus because I have another computer that gets to the desktop but the icons are gone and I am unable to access task manager. I have a little internet cafe here in the philippines and I need to fix these machines but I really would rather fix them myself. Could this be the"Total Security" virus. Any help I can get would be welcome. Thank you.

What do you mean the drive has been disabled?

Does the drive show up in BIOS?

Does the drive open and close?

You say the computer will not boot. What happens when you turn the computer on? Do you see anything on the screen at all? Do you get to the windows loading screen?

With the one most effected it simply goes to a black screen with  Restart and select proper boot device. As far as the disabled part. When I tried to reformat I went into the bios menu and discovered that the cd drive was in parenthesis which indicates that it has been disabled. I cannot access any programms so I can't re enable it so I am not quite sure what to do next.

Can you not make any changes in BIOS?

      Try replacing the CMOS battery.

      Hi
please if you can enter bios first check if the computer have detected the hard disk
first check the connectors or if you have another one change it
if not check the jumper where it is connectted  master or slave or cable select
try these procedier give me the answer
for the boot try to enter bios  in boot priority change the firs boot to CD
then the second to hard disk ::)
