Do mods think this the right place?
« on: August 30, 2011, 09:40:25 AM »
Hi,
I've just read  http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chbackup.htm and I think that I'll need to make some questions about what's written there.
Do you think this is the right place?
Thank you in advance

We can't tell if we don't know what the questions are.

Hi!

One of the questions is about the contents of the chart that's on that page

Looking at it I understand that if I choose an external hard disk drive it will be less portable, more expensive, faster, and easy to use and it will also have more capacity to store than the other media.
I can also see that it's "compatibility" will be less as compared to the other media.

But I don't understand what “compatibility” stands for in this case. In other words, I don't know what things the other media might do that the external hard disk drive might not and conversely.

Can you help me on that?

Thanks in advance.

Well, if you ask me that whole page looks like somebody's personal opinions and a bit of Googling dressed up as "technical advice". I don't really see why a USB hard drive should get 2 for "compatibility" whereas a USB pen drive gets 3. I suggest you look more widely for information.

The information is a broad coverage of what was piratical at the time the page was written. Overall, the statements made are still useful.
Yes, USB devices are often preferred. Yet USB devices often give the most trouble. But that is a question of quality, not intrinsic design.

Not covered in the article was the subject of 'cloud' storage. If the 'cloud' becomes more widespread, the article will have to be rewritten.
