    randomly displayed image hijacks cursor!
    « on: September 04, 2011, 04:42:43 AM »
I am being driven almost insane by what appears to be a volume control bar that randomly appears in front of any other windows that are open in the middle of the screen. It appears and disappears at random.

When I move the cursor, it is immediately dragged back to this bar. Can anyone suggest what this is and how I might fix it?

Here is  a link to a screenshot of the offending bar:

I'm using Windows 7 by the way.

    Mark.

    1) What is new or different since the last time everything worked properly (ie, new hw, new sw, virus, error, etc)?
    2) Boot to safe mode. Does the same thing happen there?

It's not my PC so I'm not sure what has changed. I will try booting to sage mode and see whether the problem persists.

That looks like a proprietary volume bar, not one that belongs to Windows, which means it can probably be uninstalled without issues if it's causing problems.

      In addition to Allan's questions:

      3) What is the make and model of the computer? Or is it a custom built desktop?

What keys are you pressing at the time this happens?

On some of the newer keboards there is a Fn key like on notebooks.  That when pressed with another key will change the volume, control the Disk player. . .

The key is placed between the Windows Key and the Ctrl key.
