    « on: October 14, 2011, 12:32:49 PM »
The computer was given to Me not working properly. So I put the reinstall CD in it,then when it got to the sect where You have to choose the partition, I chose the smallest amount of MB. So I am thinking that I chose the wrong one.
At boot I can choose several selections like, safe mode, last known good configeration, the it just sits there and loads or runs which ever is correct.A bit more info.

Your thread title says:  "DST Failed"
DST=Drive Self Test; indicates SATA hard drive has failed.

    Your Inspiron 1720
    http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&ServiceTag=71MBQF1&SystemID=INS_PNT_PM_1720&os=WLH&osl=en&catid=&impid=

    Your configuration indicates:  FR471   Hard Drive, 250G, Serial ATA 9.5, 5.4, SMSNG-M6
Looks like a Samsung 250GB SATA drive

You can buy a new 320GB drive for about $50.

Tell us exactly step by step what you did when trying to  create the partition...
