Floppy Drive error
« on: July 03, 2004, 01:48:45 PM »
I have installed a new Hard drive and when i turned on the computer, while in DOS it tells me: "Drive A error". I checked cables and power, everythign looks good. The LED light turns on when i put a diskette in it. The problem that i have is that I need a floppy in order to start the computer and install the OS in my hard drive. Can anyone give me an idea of what can be the problem?.

The hard drive has been formatted already. After the format was completed, the system does not read A or D drive at all. I need the A drive in order to use the boot up disk. I already checked the boot sequence inthe BIOS and is set to start with the Floppy drive, but still does not work.

If the HDD LED and/or FDD LED are on continuously, you may have the FDD cable on backwards or shifted over a pin or two.

Check your jumper settings. If a HD is set to, for example, Single vice Master when you have a slave drive, or if a drive is set to Cable Select when it should be on Master or Single, that can bollix the IDs.

Try setting the BIOS to 'Default'.
