technology of CPU and video quality
    « on: October 23, 2011, 03:49:23 AM »
    Hello
It’s better that I ask my question in here.
    I have a simple question,
Is the technology of CPU (MMX, SSE and etc.) can effect on quality of video converting or DVD ripping?
What about type of CPU (AMD, Intel, 32bit and 64 bit)?

    Thanks

A chart for the best-performing CPUs under the x264 benchmark. Note that real-world performance may vary.
Intel has also included a new technology called "Quick Sync Video" on its latest Sandy Bridge processors(except some of the low-end Pentiums), which some claim are even faster than GPU encoding.

As for the quality of the video, there will be no difference if you encode a video on a single-core CPU or on the latest hexacore CPU. You can select the resolution and bitrate of the video output in most video encoding programs, though.

The technology level of the CPU and its clock speed will affect the speed of ripping, and higher quality will always take longer overall.

Converting a video, say a AVI, to a DVD format is a CPU intensive tasks. Given the quality,  size and frame rate do not change, the time to convert is a function of the CPU performance.. And yes, the MMX and other improvements affect the speed. Unless the application does not use them.
