updating my dell gx240 on a budget !
    « on: October 29, 2011, 11:17:38 AM »
My laptop was stolen back on 9/11/11 and that is was a great blow and i was without a computer for 1 1/2 month but lucky i found a organization that can help me because i'm " legally disabled and have limited income " so they discount pc from $75 down to $50 plus taxes and before i when to see it i ask the ago and is was 1 to 2 yrs old but when i got there is was more like 6 to 7 yrs old but i was desperate so i got it and after a few day..........well is was a big mistake but i need a pc so now what can i do and i want t see what are my option because i want to see if i can " swap or upgrade component " and make in a low/mid range pc for under a budget

now i posted this question on dell forum and i know is a dinosaurs and they really didn't help me they NEVER gave me option of what to do with regard to swapping parts now i read that you can put a gx280 mobo w/ tray in this also and i want to see if that so to possible  because the case is in great shape and is got a cd-rom drive " don't care for dvd " and a 240watt power supply in this mini tower and might need upgrading but i can get them refurbished/used.......so let me know

A dell gx240 for $50 was a good deal. Why do you want to upgrade it? It works. I also am handicapped and I used an old Dell GX280  for a long time until I got enough money to get sorting better. There is an old proverb; 'Beggars can't be Choosers.'

    Dell gx240 specs:
    Quote
    Microprocessor type
    IntelŪ PentiumŪ 4 microprocessor.
    Architecture
133-megahertz (MHz) synchronous dynamic random-access memory (SDRAM)
    Maximum RAM  1 GB
    Computer chip set  Intel 845
    Data bus width   64 bits
Audio type   AC97, Sound Blaster emulation
    Interfaces:
    Internal    PCI bus/AC97
    External
stereo line-in minijack, microphone-in minijack, line-out minijack on the rear input/output (I/O) panel; headphones minijack on the front panel

It works just fine with Windows XP. You can upgrade the CPU, but, IMHO, that is the the best interment. Instead, get a larger Hard Drive and use the old one for backup.

Why are you quoting your own Post ? ?
        It serves no purpose whatsoever...

That's not bad.  The processor is minimally faster, but you may be able to add the Ram and an extra hdd.  Never turn your nose at a good parts machine.

I was simply pointing out it's not neccessary to quote your posts in order to reply...
