help please
« on: November 11, 2011, 08:24:29 PM »
A few weeks ago we had a powersurge come through our house during a storm that burned up the surge protecter our computer was plugged into. We normally leave our computer on most of the time and a few days after this powersurge we came home to find our computer screen completely distorted with different colored lines and we were able to get absolutely no response from the mouse or any of the programs on the computer. I ended up having to turn the computer off at that tower. upon restarting the computer a screen popped up that the computer is experiencing problems and that windows was going to find a solution. They only thing that has worked so far is to restore the computer to a previous date. unfortunately, this has happened 3 times since the powersurge and I have no idea how to fix it. Any ideas would be helpful
thanks

...burned up the surge protector      :o

Your computer may be permanently damaged. Backup your important files to DVD or external drive. Install everything all over again. A power surge strong enough to cook the surge protectors is massive.
